A long, long time ago when Aotearoa was young there lived a clever demigod called Maui. Every night his whanau gathered around the blazing hot fire and told stories about their ancestors. When Maui came over to sit by the fire he started to wonder how fire was made. So that night when everybody went to sleep Maui started to put all the fire out so there was no fire in the village. The next morning when everyone was awake they wondered where the fire went. Meanwhile when Maui went to the blazing red flaming mountain. there was a cave he went into . There was a woman there. She was red and fire was everywhere. His feet hurt When he.reached the woman. Who are you? The woman demanded that he tell his name. Maui maui said and i need fire. ‘’Why?’’ She said 'Because my village is cold and I need fire to warm them up’’ She gave him a finger nail so then he went off, then he dropped it in the gutter and then went.Back and got another one and kept dropping then he went back and back until she gave him the last one she was furious she turned all red and started shooting fireballs at him he turned intoAn eagle and flew away her last bit of toenail and it went down and the whole forest burnt down his wing was on fire then he called for the god of weather and it rained his wing hurt he turned back into human so then he went to the forest and collected some wood he went back home and bring back some firewood.
